After shooting all day in the Texas Hill Country a few weeks ago, I came back to Austin after dark. Driving across a bridge, I noticed the water and got the idea of doing a night image of the skyline with a reflection in the Colorado River (Lady Bird Lake/Town Lake) that runs through the city. Houston Skyline At Night
Last weekend I was in the Houston/Galveston area for a short time. I had been wanting to get a skyline photo of Houston at night so I headed downtown about 11:00pm to have a look around and see if I could find a place with a decent view. I found this awesome location with a view of the big buildings and a small bit of river running across below. Things just kind of fell into place. I love it when that happens!

Tyler State Park Lake at Sunset
I visited Tyler State Park this past weekend. It is located deep in the woods of East Texas about halfway between Dallas, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. The men of President FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps created the park between 1935 and 1941, and some of the original buildings are still in use. There are tons of camping sites for tent camping, RV camping and there are also cabins to rent, so it covers various levels of roughing it. It has a 64 acre lake that is popular for kayaking, canoeing and swimming as well as fishing. The park also has miles of trails including a 2.1 mile trail that goes all the way around the lake...

Pathway on top of Enchanted Rock
This wasn't something I expected to find on top of Enchanted Rock. From the ground, the whole thing looks like a big, round granite rock because that's what it is. As you are climbing it, that is about all you encounter on the way up - mostly what appears to be one huge rock, with some cracks here and there and a few other rocks laying around. But on top, some vegetation has grown in those cracks. It is mostly cactus and a few trees and some grass...

Sunset at Barton Creek
I found this awesome location on Barton Creek after several zig-zags and end of trails and backtracking and going many different ways. I'm not totally sure I could find my way back there again without some searching. But it was such a cool place that I will definitely try to find it again at some point.

Lake Sunset in the Wichita Mountains
A beautiful sunset behind the mountains reflecting in this small lake in the Wichita Mountains in southwest Oklahoma. There are 13 lakes in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. Lake Jed Johnson is the third largest of them. The mountains partially surround the lake here and make for an awesome backdrop.

Sunset at the Pennybacker Bridge in Austin Texas
I came across this place west of Austin Texas and had to stop and see what I could see. I went up on the cliff that you can see in the right side of the photo first, but I wanted to get the bridge in the shot along with the sunset, so I crossed the highway and climbed up the cliff on the other side. It was perfect! There is a trail up there but I didn’t get to go exploring and see where it went. Just one more reason to go back!….
